Round 1 Recompete Summary
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is required by law to recompete contracts under the Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program (CBP) at least once every three years. CMS conducted the Round 1 Recompete competition for six product categories in the same nine competitive bidding areas (CBAs) as the Round 1 Rebid.
The Round 1 Recompete contracts and prices became effective on January 1, 2014. Beneficiaries with Original Medicare who obtained competitively bid items across the six product categories in those nine CBAs were required to obtain those items from a contract supplier unless an exception applied. The Round 1 Recompete contracts and prices expired on December 31, 2016.
